Friends of McKinney Field

 
 What is the Mission of Friends of McKinney Field
 
The Friends of McKinney Field is a community effort to help develop solutions for the playing surface of McKinney Field in Grafton WV.  With the increased use of the field by Football, Soccer, Band, and other high school and middle school sports the field is not able to withstand the continued use.  Last year several athletes were injured and over the past few years by the end of the football season the field was unplayable and high school playoff games had to be moved to out-of-town locations.
 
Spearheading the campaign is Taylor County Prosecuting Attorney, John L. Bord.

“Friends of McKinney Field started in November of last year when McKinney Field was in poor shape,” Bord explained. “We realize that these problems are the fault of no one. The growth of sports programs, and the use of McKinney Field has gone up tremendously. A grass field is something we just cannot maintain.

The Friends of McKinney Field are looking at options that would allow a turf field to be installed in order to support the 60-80 events that are held on the field annually.
 
Reports have shown that McKinney Field is an unsafe liability for the children of Taylor County, and that something has to be done.
